Genet Moyle
Why you should be excited
Genet Moyle is an extremely old English cider and cooking apple, which was an orchard star way back in the 15th century.
The story of Genet Moyle
Living in a region where apple growing goes back barely more than 150 years, it is humbling to learn that Genet Moyle was a big-time orchard superstar in 15th century England. Yes, some 600 years ago.
In those days, this variety was prized for the high-flavoured puree it provided when cooked, but even more for the aromatic, light and classy cider it made when fermented.
Experts of the day concluded that single varietal Genet Moyle cider was “fit to be drunk by ladies in summer.” Too subtle for the coarse male palate, perhaps?
The tree is vigorous and disease-resistant and the fruit is large, flavourful and not super-juicy.
