Fall Wine

Why you should be excited

Fall Wine is a cider apple from early 1800s upstate New York. Considered lost for much of the 20th century.

The story of Fall Wine

This relatively obscure old U.S. cider apple fell in and out of favour over about a 100 year period starting early in the 19th century, eventually disappearing and becoming considered extinct early in the 1900s. This despite the fact that it had been considered a good cider apple in locations where it thrived.

In the 1950s, however, fruit explorer Fred Ashworth found a single Fall Wine tree growing in Virginia and the variety was rediscovered.

We’re happy to play a small part in its resurgence.

It’s a productive, although biennial variety that produces juice that’s sweet and wine-like.
