Sweet Winesap

Why you should be excited:

Sweet Winesap is from the U.S. Northeast, Pennsylvania, to be exact. A little known yet likeable apple.

apple_sweetwinesap.jpgThe story of Sweet Winesap:

Here’s another old variety with a confusing name.

Not only is Sweet Winesap not related to the classic Winesap; it really doesn't seem to have a lot to compare it to that more famous old U.S> variety, except that they both come from relatively similar areas (Sweet Winesap from Pennsylvania and Winesap from New Jersey).

Relatively little known, you need to dig to find information on this variety. However, we hear that it’s a tasty apple -– which is supported by its history as a New York-grown apple that was shipped to the U.S. South due to its high quality and good keeping ability.

So Sweet Winesap is another relatively obscure variety you might just want to give a try.
