Senshu

Why you should be excited:

Senshu is another sweet Japanese-bred apple that’s crisp and juicy with a light flavour.

apple_senshu.jpgThe story of Senshu:

Also known as Sensyu, this apple is the product of crossing the famed Fuji –- Japan’s most popular apple –- with the considerably lesser-known Toko. The result is an apple most notable perhaps for its crisp and juicy yellowish flesh.

As Fuji’s involvement would suggest, Senshu is also an extremely sweet apple, which thrills some while turning off others. It’s won itself a decent-sized following, to the extent that you can go online and order a gift box -– at a premium price -– of this variety along with about 20 others.

You know you’ve made the big-time when you’re on that rather pricey list.
