Regent

Why you should be excited:

Regent is an apple bred for northern regions with plenty going for it, including a nice suagr/acid balance.

apple_regent.jpgThe story of Regent:

Here's an example of how much things have improved for folks wanting to grow apples in areas like the North American prairie, which experiences harsh winters.

The good people at the University of Minnesota transformed the situation of these folks during the 20th century, from one of having to grow largely substandard apples or none at all to one of having numerous apple options of high quality.

Regent is most certainly of excellent quality, with productive and healthy trees growing apples of very nice consistency and delightfully balanced sweet/sharp flavour.

And on top of all that, it's also resistant to cedar apple rust, a significant issue for many of us.
