Dunn's Seedling

Why you should be excited:

Dunn's Seedling is a nicely-flavoured fresh eating apple once widely-grown in the southern hemisphere.

apple_dunnsseedling.jpgThe story of Dunn's Seedling:

The unfortunate commercial imperative facing would-be major apple varieties includes a requirement that they be ‘highly coloured.’ Which means super-bright, super-red and super-eye catching.

A pretty, but more subtle-looking, apple like Dunn’s Seedling may fail this taste, even with its excellent fresh flavour.

While we don’t much mind what industrial agriculture does, it’s crazy that an apple like this may not be available to people who love it, simply because of its low-key appearance. Same goes for varieties that are modestly-sized or – horrors! – inconsistently sized.

Luckily, we’re not bound by the same rules as the mass marketers.
