Mantet

Why you should be excited:

Mantet is a hardy apple that hails from Manitoba and offers unusually excellent flavour for an early ripener.

The story of Mantet:

apple_mantet.jpgWhile we never set out to include apples from every Canadian province, we are making progress in that direction. It's hard to say whether we'll ever find one from Newfoundland and Labrador or Prince Edward Island -- and Alberta may be tough, too -- so it might be a longshot.

But at least we've now got Manitoba covered. And given the harshness of a Manitoba winter, that's no small feat.

Mantet has plenty to offer other than its origins pretty much right in the middle of Canada. Early ripening, excellent flavour, decent keeping ability and spectacular blooms are just a few of its other desirable attributes. Plus it's known for producing a good-sized crop each and every year.

Good job, Manitoba!
