Levering Limbertwig

Why you should be excited:

Levering Limbertwig is an old variety from the U.S. South that stands out for the tree's drooping branches.

apple_leveringlimbertwig.jpgThe story of Levering Limbertwig:

Limbertwig apples are an odd case: a family of more than two dozen varieties so diverse that experts disagree on what makes them a family.

Some say it's a distinctive flavour they all share. Others say it's the tree's drooping branches.

Whatever it is, Levering Limbertwig is a member of the family that came along sometime in the 19th century, offering solid eating quality (quite literally, as this is one hard apple) in addition to better than average keeping ability.

Larger than the average Limbertwig, Levering Limbertwig is a throwback to the apples of old times that kept well and worked for fresh eating, baking, apple butter and cider.
