Lady Apple

Why you should be excited:

Lady Apple is a teeny-tiny perfect-looking little apple probably best known for its ornamental uses.

apple_lady.jpgThe story of Lady Apple:

If you’ve ever seen tiny apples used decoratively, they were probably Lady Apples. And if you’ve ever drunk from a wassail cup, it was probably decorated with Lady Apples.

This variety is ancient and cute as the dickens. As small as crab-apples, these little guys taste great and keep well, but often end up uneaten simply because they look so pretty, they tend to be treated as ornaments more than food items.

Which is a shame, even if it flatters the appearance of this apple that originated in France and was already considered an old variety 400 years ago.

In addition, the tree grows compactly, so it's well-suited to growing in containers.
