Kidd's Orange Red

Why you should be excited:

Kidd’s Orange Red is a very nice New Zealand apple that combines the best from its two famous parents.

apple_kiddsorangered.jpgThe story of Kidd's Orange Red:

Apple breeders have found that combining two famous parents doesn’t always result in offspring that work well. Kidd’s Orange Red offers evidence to the contrary, as this combination of the great U.K. Cox’s Orange Pippin and the classic U.S. Red Delicious is highly successful.

You get the complexity of Cox Pippin matched with the sweetness of Delicious, the two nicely balanced in the pretty Kidd’s Orange Red package.

In fact, you’ve got to wonder why Kidd’s Orange Red isn’t more widely grown, as those who try it tend to appreciate this apple’s good looks, excellent flavour and pleasant texture. And it grows well, too. A winner all ‘round.
