Honeygold

Why you should be excited:

Honeygold is is a sweet apple similar to Golden Delicious, grown on trees that can handle harsh winter weather.

apple_honeygold.jpgThe story of Honeygold:

Perhaps best known for being falsely identified as one of the parents of the highly-regarded Honeycrisp, this is an apple that’s also carved out a niche all its own among apple eaters.

Like the name suggests, this is a sweet apple, one that seeks to match the quality of its parent, Golden Delicious, while growing on a hardy tree that can withstand a Minnesota winter (an ability it owes largely to its other parent, Haralson).

While some call it bland, others appreciate Honeygold’s crisp, juicy, straightforward sweetness.

Appealing mostly to those in cold winter areas, this remains a solid variety that's worth growing, even in balmier climes like Salt Spring Island.
