Golden Supreme

Why you should be excited:

Golden Supreme is yet another Golden Delicious descendent, ripening earlier and bearing a pretty blush.

apple_goldensupreme.jpgThe story of Golden Supreme:

While there’s debate over where in the United States Golden Supreme was first discovered (was it Clay County, West Virginia or Idaho?), there is little debate over the qualities of this apple.

Essentially, it’s an earlier-ripening, more blushed but simpler version of Golden Delicious.

That pretty much defines who is going to enjoy this apple: folks who like their apples sweet and aromatic and who don’t mind the complete absence of balancing acidity.

Which makes Golden Supreme awfully similar to many Japanese-bred varieties.

If this strikes you as appealing, you’ll definitely want to check out this variety, which grows happily on a vigorous tree.
