Why you should be excited:

Delbarestival is a sweet early season French apple that’s gone by many names and has won favour in Europe.

You’d think the challenge of marketing a new apple variety would be enough without adding brand confusion to the mix. This variety and its sports have gone by Delbarestivale, Delcorf, Estivale, Dalili, Ambassy, Monidel and Delcorf Estivale.


Seven different names. That’s even crazier than Pinova, Pinata, Corail and Sonata. For Pete’s sake, people, how about one name per variety? And then folks could focus on the quality of the apple, which is significant in the case of this sweet early apple that keeps much better than most early varieties.

Delbarestival Facts

Its origins:

Raised from a seed in Malicorn, France, 1956.

Flavour, aroma, texture:

The deep cream-coloured flesh is crisp, honeyed and very sweet, with hints of licorice.


Attractive red and orange stripes over the light yellow-green background.

When they’re available:

Early season (usually in early September).

Quality for fresh eating:


Quality for cooking:

Mainly used for fresh eating.

Keeping ability:

Good (up to 3 months when kept refrigerated).
