Chenango Strawberry

Why you should be excited:

Chenango Strawberry is a beautiful 19th century U.S. apple that's delicious when properly ripened.

The story of Chenango Strawberry:apple_chenangostrawberry.jpg

Introduced in the middle of the 19th century, Chenango Strawberry is an early-season apple that gained huge accolades during its heyday in the U.S. northeast for its appearance,a roma and flavour.

That's an impressive combination, which makes it all the more sad that this -- along with so many other great varieties -- sank into obscurity once mass marketing took over the apple world, leaving folks with few varieties to choose among at the grocery store.

The good news is that Chenango Strawberry did not disappear entirely and you can now try it and decide for yourself whether its tender, juicy, flavourful flesh and powerful apple aroma are to your liking.
